Itinerary Details

Day 1: Entebbe

◉ Welcome to the Pearl of Africa, as Uganda is called. Our experienced drivers are waiting for you at the airport in order to transfer you, your bike, and other luggage safely to your guesthouse in Entebbe.
◉ Sit back, relax, and get used to the African vibe.
◉ In the late afternoon, you will meet our team for a briefing and to prepare and test your bikes.
Meals: No meals included | Accommodation: Guesthouse in Entebbe

Day 2: Rwenzori Views

◉ Today, we will do a transfer by car of about 6-7 hours to Fort Portal, where we start our cycling adventure.
◉ We will cycle in a beautiful green environment with a backdrop of snow-capped peaks of Uganda's largest mountain range: the majestic Rwenzori Mountains.
◉ The 47-kilometre ride takes you through small villages over wide gravel roads and some short single tracks that are not technical. The last bit to the lodge is a bit of a climb, but for good reason: the lodge is situated on the edge of a crater lake and offers a breathtaking view.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner | Distance: 39 km, +578 m | Accommodation: Lodge at crater lake

Day 3: Crater Lakes

◉ Today, a ride that involves an initial slope down, after which a pretty flat route follows to the Northern entrance of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
◉ The first half will take place on wide dirt roads and smaller fire roads. The last stretch will be on tarmac, where you will have a good chance to spot wildlife next to the road.
◉ The lodge for today is located in the Southern hemisphere, as we will cross the equator just before our arrival. We overnight safari-style, sleeping in tents, with animals roaming in and out of the camp and the sounds of hippos and hyenas accompanying our star-lit dinner.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner | Distance: 95 km, +486 m | Accommodation: Safari tent camp

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park

◉ The best way to start today is with an early optional boat safari on Kazinga Channel. An early rise and shine increases the chance of spotting many wildlife drinking water along the riverbanks. The channel holds the world's largest concentration of hippos and Nile crocodiles.
◉ After breakfast, today's exciting cycling route takes us directly through the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park. We ride on a flat, wide gravel road through the savanna and have the chance to see wild animals such as buffalo, elephants, several types of bucks, and maybe even the famous tree-climbing lions.
◉ Don't worry, our vehicles will be driving right behind you on this specific section.
Meals: Breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner | Distance: 76 km, +354 m | Accommodation: Cosy lodge

Day 5: Climbing from Savanna to Jungle

◉ A marvellous change of scenery today as we leave the flat savanna behind and climb up to the rainforest. On the way, we will pass by some lovely tea plantations.
◉ Expect a challenging ride with just under 1,000 meters of ascending to reach Buhoma, the world's capital of gorilla tracking.
◉ We will stay the night at a guesthouse, the proceeds of which go to keep the local hospital running. Today, all meals will be provided for, and our lunch will be at a local restaurant so we can experience the flavours of Uganda!
Meals: Breakfast, local restaurant lunch and dinner | Distance: 58 km, +967 m | Accommodation: Buhoma community guesthouse

Day 6: Monkey Trail

◉ Exciting climbs on wide gravel roads are waiting for you. This, combined with a change of environment from a rural agricultural setting to a lush jungle, will be the ingredients for a fantastic day in the saddle.
◉ We will be on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to half the world's population of highly endangered mountain gorillas. As we will be high, we have some stunning views to take in.
◉ We will likely encounter a monkey or two, and if we are really lucky, a family of mountain gorillas. We start at 1,500 m and end at 2,300 m. Our cottages will be basic tonight, but they will have a superb view of the forest.
Meals: Breakfast, jungle lunch and dinner | Distance: 45 km, +1525 m | Accommodation: Jungle lodge cottages

Day 7: The Lake of the 1,000 Small Birds

◉ We will cycle straight through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to reach civilisation again. Once out of the forest, we will see some impressive terraced fields where the locals grow a variety of crops.
◉ Look out for island-dotted Lake Bunyonyi in the distance. Meaning "the place of little birds", the lake has 29 islands of all shapes and sizes. We can have lunch on the shore of the lake and afterwards cycle a 20 kilometer trail along the lake edges.
◉ A relaxing 30-40-minute boat ride follows to the tranquil island where we will stay the night. Optionally, you can go on a gorilla trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Meals: Breakfast, lake view lunch and dinner | Distance: 66 km, +1400 m | Accommodation: Lake Bunyonyi cabin

Day 8: Exploring Lake Mburo National Park

◉ We will leave after breakfast to cover some kilometres by car (4-5 hours) to reach Lake Mburo National Park. Lunch will be waiting for us at a lodge on a stone's throw from the park entrance.
◉ After lunch, it is time to explore the area. Although technically we will be cycling outside the park boundaries, chances are high we will meet up with some zebras and warthogs.
◉ Optionally, a night safari can satisfy your appetite for adventure.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner | Distance: 33 km, +440 m | Accommodation: Lodge at Lake Mburo

Day 9: Safari Cycling

◉ Wake up and have your breakfast while looking out over the park. In the early morning, there is a high chance that animals have approached the lodge to graze.
◉ After breakfast, we will do a cycling trip inside the park. Expect to encounter zebras, antelopes, and buffaloes on the road, and hopefully, you will ride between a group of giraffes! We will make short stops at the hippo pool.
◉ In the afternoon, we will be back on the tarmac road for a 4-hour drive back to Entebbe, crossing the equator.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner | Distance: 54 km, +550 m | Accommodation: Guesthouse in Entebbe

Day 10: Departure from Entebbe

◉ Depending on when your flight leaves, you can do some sightseeing in Entebbe. Walk on the beaches of Lake Victoria or visit the zoo or botanical garden.
