Vila do Conde will be one of the highlights, with its historic center, calm riverfront, and graceful arches of the medieval aqueduct standing proudly beside the Monastery of Santa Clara. Continue along the scenic shoreline to Praia da Estela, where the ride ends with a well-deserved rest. Following the Coast to Caminha. Today you will continue your journey north, riding along Portugal’s dramatic coastline toward the border with Spain. Midway through the ride, you will cross the graceful bridge over the Lima River and enjoy a spectacular view of Viana do Castelo, one of Portugal’s most captivating coastal towns. With its medieval heart, ornate churches, noble houses, and monumental fountains, Viana perfectly embodies the region’s rich maritime heritage and timeless charm.
Your day will end in Caminha, a peaceful town nestled at the mouth of the Minho River, where Portugal meets Spain. Take some time to stroll through its historic streets or relax by the waterfront. As you cycle onward, follow the Rio Lagares through serene, shaded paths until reaching Santa Lucía da Salgueira, a picturesque village nestled alongside the river.
Your route then passes by the impressive Paço de São Roque, a historic estate surrounded by scenic gardens, before ascending to the Miradoiro do Campo da Rata, a breathtaking viewpoint with sweeping views of the countryside. The route leads you through the countryside, passing several traditional stone crosses that mark this ancient pilgrimage path and infuse the journey with a sense of history and spirituality. Pedal onward to Barosa, where the Iglesia de Santa Mariña de Arcos da Condesa awaits—a lovely stone church set amidst green fields.
